Founded in 2011, TEDxUW is the University of Waterloo's official TEDx experience. We aim to put the extended UW community onto a new type of global activity map that is being watched, shared, and talked about by the world's top thought leaders.

Waves are anywhere and everywhere – from sound waves, to water waves, to light waves and the one thing that they have in common is that once they arrive, their impact shakes their surroundings… and everything around them is no longer the same. We recognize that Waterloo is brimming with eclectic, innovative, and impactful ideas. This year, we’re all about showcasing people who go beyond their brilliant ideas, by turning them into something more…into reality. They’re making waves.

TEDxUW is back this Fall! This year our theme is Press Play. We have curated a captivating roster of incredible speakers that will spark deep discussion and connection in the spirit of TED's vision to foster ideas worth spreading. In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic and resultant public health measures in place, TEDxUW 2020 will be held virtually and tickets are free!
From the Ground Up
Inspired by a world where innovation and creation shape our destiny, our TEDxUW 2023 theme is all about building things – from the ground up. We believe that each of us has the power to bring our ideas to life, by constructing meaningful projects, startups, and initiatives as well as by building ourselves up internally through self-realization, and embracing our own worth. In doing so, we not only validate ourselves for our efforts, but also leave a lasting impact on our personal growth and the world around us. Through this theme, we celebrate our willingness to break free from the comfort of the known, and venture into unexplored realms. Together, at TEDxUW, we will unlock the potential within ourselves and cultivate a community where bold ideas take shape; where we gain the courage to face challenges; and where we grow something new, one seed at a time.
In the Odd Chance
Like a shooting star streaking across the night sky, our journey through life is marked by unexpected twists and turns. Embracing the TEDxUW theme of 'In The Odd Chance,' we recognize that the greatest catalyst for innovation often arises from the unlikeliest of circumstances. Just as a shooting star defies the norm of the night sky, we too can defy expectations and norms by daring to venture into the unknown.

A new chapter begins. This year, we’re not settling for the ordinary — we’re breaking it apart and building something bolder. Everything Reimagined. Our 2025 theme asks one simple question: what happens when we stop accepting things as they are, and start reimagining them instead?
